The Girls on the Run end-of-season 5K is truly a celebration. Ten weeks of team-building, lessons, and, of course running, lead up to this challenge. Completing the 5K is the culminating experience of the Girls on the Run curriculum, and crossing the finish line is the moment where each girl realizes that she CAN set and accomplish a goal.
The 4th annual Girls on the Run 5K was no exception. Over 800 runners from the San Antonio community, as well as 327 girls who participated in Girls on the Run this spring, crossed the finish line on May 7. This was our first 5K held at Comanche Park, a bigger location than past years with lots of parking, shady trails, and a covered area for the finish line celebration. The joy and energy were everywhere from the pre-5K Selfie station to the post-run dance party at the main stage.
“I loved participating in this event,” one Running Buddy said.”It was so positive and heartwarming to see all the unity and support for such a great cause and first and foremost, these young girls.”
We are so proud of our girls and all that they have accomplished this season. We could not have done it without the volunteers and sponsors from various organizations who came out on Sunday. Over 130 volunteers from various organizations supported the GOTR 5K, and over 40 volunteer Running Buddies helped our girls cross the finish line.
More importantly, we could not have done it without our coaches and families who cheered our girls on at the 5K and every session over the last 10 weeks. Your support truly makes an impact!
