Girls on the Run of Bexar County is a 501(c)(3), community-based organization whose mission is to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident using a fun, experienced-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. Our after school program uses the power of running to educate and prepare girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living. During our 10-week season, girls are empowered with greater self-awareness, a sense of achievement, and a foundation in team-building to help them become strong, happy, and self-confident young women.
In 2015-2016, the program served 427 girls through 22 sites. As demand for our program continues to increase, so do our funding needs.
Our philosophy is to never turn a girl away who wants to participate in our program but cannot afford it. We ask a $150 registration fee, but our actual cost per girl is over $300. GOTRBC offers full and partial scholarships to all participants who are unable to afford the $150 fee. Our scholarship program is critical to our ability to carry out the GOTRBC mission. We anticipate distributing more than $40,000 in scholarships during the 2015-2016 academic year.
Your tax deductible gift helps us to provide programming to every girl who wants to run. Help us give the leaders of tomorrow the skills they need today. We can't run without you!
Don't forget to ask your employer about matching funds!
In addition to financial donations, we are always grateful for in-kind support. Some ideas to consider:
From paper registration forms to program and 5k flyers, from coach handbooks to curriculum, we do a lot of printing!
We feel strongly about providing our girls with healthy snacks at every meeting, so we purchase fresh fruit each week. A $125 gift card provides a team of 15 girls with healthy snacks for one season.
Throughout the year, we hold coach trainings, CPR/FA trainings, volunteer meetings, and board meetings. As we grow, so do our space needs. We also need a large spacious room four times a year to assemble the materials our coaches use for the season, and then again to disassemble, sort, and inventory the materials left at the season's end.
