Make a lasting impact on girls in Bexar County by helping us build a solid foundation!
Girls on the Run of Bexar County is seeking applicants for our Board of Directors. This is a non-paid, part-time, volunteer position with a two-year commitment. We are particularly looking for people with strong skills and experience in development, human resources, and with previous board experience.
Can't commit to coaching but still want to support a team? Have only a half hour in the afternoons to lend a hand? A Practice Partner might be just your thing.
A practice partner is a volunteer position for individuals interested in providing support for Girls on the Run participants during the 10-week season, at the practice 5k, and at the 5k celebration. Practice partners commit to attending at least seven (or one-third) of the practices during the season, including the practice 5k midway through. The more practices a practice partner can attend, the better, as this fosters relationship building between the practice partner and participating girls, which is foundational to the program.
Practice partners participate in games and workouts with the girls as needed; encourage and motivate all participants; assist in facilitation and/or planning the community service project, practice 5k, and/or end-of-season celebration as requested by the head coach; and participate in the final 5k.
Put on a smile and your GOTR gear and get ready for a 5k experience unlike any other. The excitement in the air is palpable as the girls meet their teammates, get their pictures taken, chant “Girls on the Run is so much fun” and squeeze in a final energy award before heading to the starting line. Your girl may want to hold your hand, skip, sprint or walk, and no matter what she chooses, you’ll be the support she needs along the course. At the end, when the finish line comes into sight, you will never forget the look on her face as she crosses and realizes that, indeed, she can accomplish anything she sets her mind to do. Ready to run?
Running Buddy Requirements:
Each Girls on the Run season concludes with a 5k celebration. The 5k event takes over 100 volunteers to be a success. We depend on volunteers to serve as greeters, running buddies, course marshals, manage start and finish lines, water stops, hair stations, set up and tear down and much more. We have a job for everyone who wants to help!
We’re looking for rock star volunteers who are itching to get the word out about the amazingness of Girls on the Run!
As a GOTR Ambassador you’ll attend events, expos, fairs, races and more to talk up GOTR. You’ll be talking to anyone and everyone to recruit donors, SoleMates, parents, and new sites. We’ll also ask you to make at least one GOTR site visit to check out our program.
We’ll provide you the training, promotional materials and talking points, you provide the enthusiasm, outgoing personality and some of your time throughout the next 12 months.
Sound like fun? Check out our Events page for an idea of some of the fun in store.
